Abstract:
The Geosynthetic Clay Liner(GCL) is a new kind of compound anti-seepage material which is made of two geotechnical synthetic layers with bentonite sandwiched,by means of puncturing, adhering or stitching.Related experiments were carried out for the developed GCL on its permeability, anti drying-watering cycle, anti freeze-thaw cycle,self-healing performance, friction characteristic and the anti-seepage effect of joints. Results show that the anti-seepage capability of GCL is closely related to the bentonite quantity per unit area, and to whether the bentonite is distributed evenly inside the mat, that the GCL is workable in its anti-freeze-thaw cycle and capable of certain self-healing performance, but its capability of anti-drying-watering cycle is relatively poor, that the friction coefficient between the GCL and the medium sand is larger than other materials, and that the friction coefficient of the saturation sample is a little lower than the dry one.
